Mrs. McCracken’s Pre-AP English 9 students created blackout poetry for Halloween. A blackout poem is when a poet takes a marker to an established text (for example, a page from a novel or newspaper) and starts blacking out words until a poem is formed, creating a textual and visual work of art regardless of artistic talent. This technique challenges students to think “outside of the page!”
