The Marion School District is proud to announce Michelle Valentine Foxx as the newest member of the Marion School Board. A seasoned community advocate and dedicated professional, Foxx brings a passion for education, community engagement, and leadership to her new role. She joined the board in October.
“I've always had a passion to work with kids and effect positive changes within my community when possible,” Foxx said. “I hope to foster a stronger relationship between the schools and community by encouraging more parental involvement. I also want to advocate for more development opportunities that will empower our educators and enhance the quality of teaching.”
A graduate of the University of Memphis with a bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership, Foxx brings nearly 30 years of professional experience as a Ramp Operations Manager at FedEx in Memphis. Her commitment to service includes volunteering with the United Way, Meals on Wheels, and her church’s Community Outreach Committee.
“We are truly honored to have someone with Michelle’s background and experience joining our school board,” said Dr. Glen Fenter, Marion superintendent. “In the short time she has been with us, she has already shown herself to be strong advocate for our students, our teachers, and our community. We are truly blessed in our district to have an amazing school board, filled with thoughtful individuals who are dedicated to improving educational outcomes for our students. Michelle is a perfect fit.”
Notably, Foxx is the first Black woman to serve on the Marion School Board, a milestone she embraces with pride and humility.
“To be able to represent my race and gender is a great responsibility that I am proud of,” she said. “I'm hoping that the youth of our district will be able to see themselves in me, and it motivates them to strive to take leadership roles, and that it encourages them to give back to their community. As the first African-American female, I will strive to serve with honor, integrity, and boldness to continue the uproar mobility of our schools and communities.”
Foxx said her first months on the board have been an educational experience, particularly learning how the school board impacts each school's success. It is through the board’s guidance and leadership, she said, that each campus is able to maintain its facilities' functions, security, and learning materials.
“With the board's assistance, the district is able to attract the great talent of teachers, staff, and administrators that has continued to make Marion School District one of the top districts in Arkansas,” she noted. “As a new member, I understand I have so much more to learn and look forward to improving my personal development as a result of serving.”
Foxx is replacing Bartt Vaughn, who resigned his position because of time restraints.
