The Marion High School Quiz Bowl team is wrapping up its competitive season, having secured strong finishes at both the State and Regional competitions.

REGIONALS

On March 15, Marion hosted the 6A East Quiz Bowl Regional Tournament, taking second place after being narrowly edged out in the championship match by Searcy. Marion Senior Jackson McGinnis was named the Regional MVP, answering a tournament-high 8.33 questions per game. The strong finish qualified Marion for the 6A State Quiz Bowl Tournament.

The State qualifiers at Regionals were as follows:

  1. Searcy

  2. Marion

  3. Sylvan Hills

  4. Mountain Home

STATE

On Saturday (April 11), the Quiz Bowlers traveled to Little Rock for the State Tournament. Marion had a strong morning, going 2-1 in matches, logging wins against Greenwood and Van Buren and losing only to LR Catholic.

Having earned the 5th seed, Marion was set up for a rematch with LR Catholic in bracket play, where Marion was eliminated in a hard-fought match.

Once again, senior Jackson McGinnis was named to the All-Tournament team, scoring the fourth-highest average point total in the tournament.

WHAT’S NEXT

Students will be headed to the Arkansas All Stars Tournament on May 3 at Pulaski Academy. Instead of team play, like the students are accustomed to playing, they will be competing as individuals.

Finally, the MHS Quiz Bowl will wrap up their season May 23-26 at the 43rd Annual National Academic Championship in New Orleans. Eight of the team's 28 players will have the chance to compete at the national level against schools from all across the country. They will play a guaranteed 6 games between Saturday and Sunday, and if they are successful, the playoffs will be held on Sunday evening.
