Among the new faces at the Marion School District this year is a new director of child nutrition.
Melissa Lace assumed the post in July. She comes to Marion with a wealth of experience, including stints as the child nutrition director for the Earle School District and as director of food and beverage for the Jonesboro Country Club.
“My favorite part of the job is the students!” Lace said. “I love knowing that we are providing nutritious meals that taste great for the students. Most people look at school lunches and think of pre-packaged, tasteless food. But I enjoy having the opportunity to show students and parents that school lunches can be good.”
In her role as child nutrition director, Lace works closely with Taher, the district’s food service provider. Lace noted that with scratch cooking and other options made available by Taher, Marion students have access to meal choices including salad bars, taco bars, pizza bars, nacho bars, and meal line fare.
A resident of the Wynne area, Lace is married, mom of four kids, and “GiGi” to three grandchildren.
“I am happy to become a member of the Patriot Family and look forward to the 2024-25 school year,” she said.
