According to state guidelines, special education records must be destroyed six years after a student is dismissed, graduated, found ineligible, or if the records are no longer useful in making educational decisions.
Under these guidelines, special education records of Marion School District students who graduated, transferred to a different district, or had their services end during the 2015-16 school year will be shredded beginning June 13, 2022.
Parents have the right to review and request copies of these records before they are destroyed. Students also have the right to review/copy records if they are 18 years or older. Any parent or former student who would like to review and/or pick up their special education records should contact the Marion Special Education office at 870-739-5100 before June 13, 2022.
Please note: These records are not the student’s permanent records – they are only special education due process forms and records.
